MEMORY INDEX
ABOUT:
MEMORY INDEX is the post-punk project of Jackson VanHorn, an Indianapolis-based musician known for his dark, cinematic soundscapes and emotionally resonant songwriting. With previous releases on Manic Depression Records, Icy Cold Records, and Already Dead Records, VanHorn brings a distinct vision to the genre - one that bridges brooding intensity with lyrical depth.
Before launching MEMORY INDEX, VanHorn was a founding member and multi-instrumentalist of the ethereal art-rock band TV GHOST (In the Red Records), earning a cult following for their atmospheric noise and visceral live shows. His solo work has garnered underground acclaim, particularly with the release of two LPs: After the Rehearsal (2020) and A Silent Understanding (2022), which drew comparisons to icons like Nick Cave, Peter Murphy, and Leonard Cohen.
With MEMORY INDEX, VanHorn channels the haunting minimalism of late '70s and early '80s post-punk - evoking Joy Division, New Order, along with the ghostly tension of David Lynch’s cinematic universe. Tracks like “Hyper Violence” and “Transpose” delve into memory, identity, and disconnection, while songs such as “Ecto” and “Wake Up” reflect on the precarious state of American politics - taken from his debut album "Erosion" planned for release on Cold Transmission Music in 2025.
Dark, immersive, and unflinchingly honest, MEMORY INDEX is a project rooted in introspection and shaped by the shadows of our time.
